Shinnecock/Peconic Fishing Report 4-14-24
Striped bass season is finally upon us and we are hearing rumors of schoolie sized fish being caught in our surrounding waters. Nothing definitive but if I were to guess, try targeting the back bay areas of the Peconic bay. Water temps are still a bit chilly and should begin to warm quicker as our night time temperatures are beginning to moderate. The weakfish made an early appearance last spring, so I would expect to see the same again this year.
The best bet for the coming weeks would be to target the back bay shallower areas where the waters get a chance to warm a bit more under the daytime sun. Soft plastic baits and bucktails fished just off the bottom should work well for the lethargic fish in the cold water.
