Summer is Here!

Summer has officially arrived; and with that the fishing is great.

The striped bass bite around the Ponquogue bridge has been excellent on the outgoing tide. Anchor up with some clam chum or bellies to bring in those cows. Fluking in the bay is still good too; east and west of the bridge. The east cut, the basket area, and Rampasture point are all holding some nice flatties.

For those shore-bound fisherman, the Shinnecock canal is holding a lot of fluke these days, as well as porgies, blues and stripers. The inlet also has stripers from the rocks. Mostly on bucktails at night, but some are being caught during the day tides too.

The ocean bite has heated up this week. Mike Fargo weighed in a 12.3 pound flattie on Sunday afternoon from 65 feet water on an EEBT fluke rig with spearing and squid. The Shinnecock reef has some good sized seabass (opens on Saturday) and the stripers are falling to Mojo rigs trolled in front of the inlet.

The Peconics is holding porgies and blues around Rodgers rock and Jessups neck. The south ferry slip has some striped bass and blues as well.
