Shinnecock and Peconic Report 4-21-24

The fish are beginning to show as the water begins to warm. Most reports of striped bass have come from the ocean beaches both east and west of the Shinnecock inlet. Dusk to dawn are the best times and rubber baits, bucktails and swimming plugs would be best. Since they are showing out front you can be sure that they are in our bays as well. Target the small creeks and back bay areas of both Shinnecock and Peconic bays. We have heard of a few keeper sized fish being taken. We have also heard of the first weakfish being taken in our area. Best to target the back bay areas of Shinnecock and Peconic as well. Weakfish like pink and white colors but as you know whatever you have most confidence in should be your go to. The Shinnecock canal should be seeing signs of life any day if not already. The first bite here is pretty tight lipped. We have not heard any reports of porgies yet but I'm sure those dinner plate sized fish will be out in the Jessups area for opening day on May 1st. The fluke are making their way in from the deep as reported by some commercial guys. Let's hope they are here for the season opener on May 4th.

We are open seven days, 8-6 Mon-Sat and 8-3 on Sunday. The shop is stocked and ready for your next trip. Our freezers are full of all the local baits in season. Be sure to bring in your gear for service or repairs before your next trip.
